Description by the architects

Working on this project has been an absolute pleasure, amazing clients with amazing ideas with the PERFECT site to bring these ideas to life. What more could a designer ask for?! Located on a steep site in Fishhoek, the client wanted to create a stepped house that would tick all their requirements which included as many outdoor spaces as possible which could be used depending on the weather.

On the lowest level of the site, a concrete garage base will be constructed which will have a terrace of steps leading up to the next level of the roof top sun deck. This will be located on the garage roof in the front portion of the site which will have a jacuzzi and covered bar area for entertaining. The next level of the house will be a small guest unit with its own kitchenette, bathroom, braai area to the front and private sheltered courtyard leading off from the bedroom.

An exterior sheltered staircase will then lead up to the next level of the main house. The landing of the staircase was designed to have access to the front deck aswell as an entrance door into the main living area. This was so that the owners dogs could easily access the garden at night for a bathroom break :) Every detail was well thought out to ensure ALL occupants are happy.

Leading into the main living area, occupants are greeted with a large open dining and lounge area which is divided by a central fireplace. Two sets of large stacking doors lead out onto the fourth open area of the house, a large steel and timber balcony that connects the living area with the main bedroom. Behind the living spaces is a stunning kitchen which stretches half the length of the 12M container with a small scullery tucked in the corner. To the left of the kitchen is a study area which can also be completely opened up to form part of the lounge. This ensures that all spaces can be dynamically connected or separated depending on the occupants needs. Both the kitchen and the study area have access to the back garden of the property, which has a free floating staircase leading to yet another roof top balcony/braai area. I know I would feel on top of the world on this spot.

Back inside the house, there is a guest bedroom with bathroom space located to the North-East with their own private balcony. On the North-West side of the living area will be the elongated main bedroom with 90 degree views of Fishhoek bay, a walk-in dressing area and to the end a very luxurious bathroom with views of the mountain that surrounds the back of the property.

The black exterior is complimented by black decking - A Japanese technique called Shou sugi ban which is a natural way to preserve and protect wood.

Can you see why we are just in love with this house.....
